We are currently representing 44 African-American men who were strip searched on the street by Oakland police officers.  These strip searches found nothing illegal.  In our cases, a federal judge already has ruled that Oakland's strip search policies are illegal.  Despite this clear legal ruling, Oakland police persist in this patently unlawful conduct.  No other police department in the country has written policies authorizing police to strip search people on the street in public.  Our aim is to end these unconstitutional and degrading strip searches, and obtain fair compensation for victims.  Did you know that you do not have to have all of your clothes removed to be considered strip searched under the law?  A strip search includes when an officer removes or arranges some or all of a person's clothing so as to permit a visual inspection of the underclothing, breasts, buttocks or genitalia of the person.  Contact us if you or someone you know may have been strip searched on the street, in public view, or in the course of a minor arrest.
