In 2011, Haddad & Sherwin, John Burris, and Ben Nisenbaum did a trial for two men who were strip searched by Oakland Police Officers in broad daylight on Martin Luther King Blvd. After presenting multiple witnesses and cross-examining the officers, the court found that these egregious searches did in fact happen, and that Officer Ingo Mayer deliberately, callously and oppressively violated the plaintiff’s rights. The court awarded our two clients over $245,000, including puntive damages. The City also had to pay our clients’ attorneys’ fees and costs.
