Reforms to Prohibit Risky Restraints and Excited Delirium Claims

Haddad & Sherwin LLP Partner Julia Sherwin provided key amendments to California’s new law prohibiting chokehold and prone restraints that are likely to asphyxiate people, and to California’s new law prohibiting the use of the junk science theory of excited delirium. She also testified before the Colorado Legislature in support of its new legislation banning the use of the excited delirium theory, which was modeled on California’s law. She continues to advocate for changes to the law in other states as well.
