Johnna Spikes
Johnna Spikes is currently the administrative assistant for the team at Haddad & Sherwin LLP. She is a product development graduate from the Fashion Institute of Merchandising and Design who has worked as a buyer curating fashion apparel and accessories. Her role included executing a wholesale trade show seasonal calendar with a small sales team. While sourcing design houses and manufacturing, she worked with factory workers and manufacturing agents in Hong Kong and Yiwu becoming partners in the success of an international fashion business. While attending FIDM, Johnna took opportunities to visit, tour, and temp at apparel factories, high volume denim manufacturing campuses, and wash and finishing houses in the greater Los Angeles area. During that time, she experienced daily life of machine workers with quotas to meet. Throughout her life, Johnna has worked in the food and beverage industry in positions such as event manager, bartender, server, and prep assistant working closely with back of the house positions to execute successful events and high-volume service driven food outlets. While doing so, Johnna often found herself working side by side with individuals belonging to underserved communities.
When retail operations were shut down in 2020, Johnna decided to embark on a new adventure working in law. In hopes of gaining knowledge on how to create better environments for underserved communities and people who experience discrimination through unjust policies in place, she sought out a position in civil rights. Johnna is working toward a degree in rhetoric with plans on attending law school in the future. Working on Walls of Justice, connecting with the Oakland community through art and social justice, and assisting the families of clients are tasks she enjoys in her administrative role.
She volunteers for Bay Area Mural Program, Project Homeless Connect, and Grassroots Law Project. She is a member of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and the Sustainable Apparel Coalition.
When Johnna is not studying, she enjoys gardening, snowboarding, reading, listening to jazz and blues while sewing and crafting, cooking/baking, and spending time with her pets, Molly and Grace. In the summer, she enjoys traveling to different baseball parks and taking in the historical areas, local music, and art scene of each city.
