Haddad & Sherwin LLP this month reached a settlement in the police shooting case involving victim Kris Jackson. In June of 2015, Kris Jackson was shot to death by a South Lake Tahoe police officer as he was coming out the rear window of his motel room. Police officer Joshua Klinge shot Jackson, stating that he felt threatened as he claims he saw a gun in Kris’s hand. Kris Jackson was unarmed with nothing in his hands, naked from the waist up, wearing only boxer shorts.
In June of 2017, the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office conducted their final investigation and stated that although they would not bring criminal charges, they could not find the shooting was justified.Â
Since the 2016 filing of this federal civil lawsuit against the City and Officer Klinge, Jackson’s parents have been seeking justice for their son’s civil rights violations and wrongful death. Kris Jackson’s father hired Haddad & Sherwin LLP, notable California civil rights attorneys.
After nearly seven years, Haddad & Sherwin, alongside Jackson’s parents and attorney Dale Galipo who represented Kris’s mother, reached a settlement of $4.5 million against the City of South Lake Tahoe.
Michael Haddad is quoted in press statements, saying “Hopefully this substantial settlement will bring closure to Kris’s parents. It was an egregious police shooting of an unarmed young man.”
